Fedora Legacy shutting down

In case any of you are not aware, the Fedora Legacy project is in the
process of shutting down.

The current model for supporting maintenance distributions is being
re-examined.  In the meantime, we are unable to extend support to older
Fedora Core releases as we had planned. As of now, Fedora Core 4 and
earlier distributions are no longer being maintained.

Discussions last night on the #Fedora-Legacy channel have brought to
light the fact that certain Fedora Legacy properties (servers) may be
going away soon, such as the repository at
<http://download.fedoralegacy.org/> and the build server.  Legacy folks
need to let us know what they want to be done with the content in the
repository mirrors.  If you don't speak up, we may find ourselves in a
place where 'yum update' commands will fail in the near future for the
Red Hat and Fedora Core releases that Legacy has supported in the past.

Fedora Legacy comenzó tras la decisión de Red Hat de dejar de soportar su distro gratuita y libre, apoyando el proyecto Fedora Core en su lugar.
Legacy ofrecía soporte para versiones viejas de Fedora Core que el proyecto oficial Fedora dejaba "de lado" por obsoletas y falta de recursos.

En Diciembre de este año, Fedora Legacy iba a dejar de dar soporte a Red Hat 7.3, que fue publicado en Mayo de 2002, y a Fedora Core 3, publicada en Noviembre de 2004. En lugar de esto, Fedora Legacy ha decidido cerrar el proyecto.

Recordemos que Fedora Legacy tuvo comienzo a partir de la decisión tomada por Red Hat en dejar de brindar soporte y de desarrollar distribuciones gratuitas.
Entonces Legacy siguió la tarea ofreciendo soporte para versiones viejas de Fedora Core, además de cerrar el ciclo pactado de soporte de RH para 7.3 y 9 Pro.


Lo mas probable es que modifiquen ligeramente los ciclos de vida (es lo que estarían re-examinando), actualmente es de aprox 6 meses para FC.

Hasta han sugerido que quien quiera soporte, vire hacia CentOS o incluso hacia Oracle!
Es escandaloso que lo digan ellos mismos.
Aunque se venía venir, en PL lo mencionamos mas de una vez.
